Drift, erosion, weathering. At the edge of the northern coastline, on the Israel-Lebanon border and underneath the historical chalk cliff, the shattering and seepage of seawater led to erosion and rock exposure and created a unique natural phenomenon – the grottoes. EROSION grew out of a critical and personal point of view, as a resident of the Rosh HaNikra region, and from a desire to fulfill the potential of the neglected and dilapidated site. The project enables a different kind of border – a demilitarized natural space that elevates its environment and functions as a platform of constructive interaction between people and populations. The on-site intervention seeks to intertwine the works of man and nature by creating a soft border and a space that bridges the physical separation, essentializes joint activity that encompasses economy and culture, and is a connection between the present and future. The use of architectural and phenomenological anchors inspires by the grottoes expose additional layers and functions that bind together countries, levels, materiality, and movement. At the center of the project – the revival of the remnants of the Mandate railway, and its operation as a change-promoting international border station.
