This project connects two neighboring cities (Nazareth and Nazareth Illit) and breaks the physical and cultural barriers between them. The two cities are separated by a physical barrier, a road called the Nazareth bypass, and by mountainous topography. Also, there is a cultural and demographic barrier that is mainly reflected in the differences in languages between the residents of both cities. Nazareth is almost entirely inhabited by Arabic speaking residents, whereas Nazareth Illit is linguistically diverse, including Russian, Hebrew and Arabic. This project concentrates on music – a multicultural language – as a tool for breaking down the barriers that occur in the Israeli population by designing a cultural center that includes an auditorium and a music school and museum. The combination of music and architecture can create an inclusive space that opens an opportunity for dialogue and communication through sound and music.
