The project "A Room of One's Own" reevaluates the issue of women's shelters, which has changed from a temporary solution to a permanent one. A woman who arrives at such a shelter hopes for protection and support in breaking the cycle in which she found herself. Currently, the shelters are absurdly perceived as a temporary location, from which she returns to the life she had escaped. They detach the woman from her familiar environment and the normative lifestyle she aspires to. In this project, I propose a supportive house at the center of Tel Aviv for women who are victims of violence, while exposing it to the urban environment and the city's culture. The project relies, among other things, on Jane Jacobs' "Eyes on the Street" theory, which refers to protection and security in the public sphere. The project examines Tel Aviv's Masaryk Square as a case study, and proposes areas of productive daily activities to its residents within its grounds. The compound includes new functions that are added to the buildings already existing in the square or connected to it. The compound is designed to transform into a bustling area in various hours and function as a protected and safe place for the residents. The project "A Room of One's Own" is analogous to the womb – it embraces the woman and supports her until the rehabilitation process is complete, and she is ready to embark on the new and independent life she has dreamed about.
