"Trains have an important role in urban and intercity mobility. But what happens in-between, at the stations? How do they fit in in the urban space? The rapid pace of life led to the creation of functional, disconnected, and alienated stations, which are used as transit areas. The project focuses on the Elifelet light rail station, which is currently under construction as part of the red line that crosses the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The station is situated between the Jaffa Railway Station complex and Eilat Street, in an area that for years has been neglected, lacked identity and affiliation. As part of identifying the station's potential as a spot where the train 'breaks through' from underground and above the street level, and following the realization that the station is the face of the destination, the project reveals the traffic artery as a new layer in the city, which is an integral part of it. The intervention in the site seeks to bridge physical, perceptional, and social gaps between the city's areas, through public functions that encourage connectivity between the different levels. The station is the generator from which a 3-dimensional urban experience is created, transforming the area into a regional landmark. This focal point is active throughout the day for passengers, residents, and visitors."
