Time is multifaceted and incomprehensible. Cyclical and linear, objective and subjective, daily and ceremonial, life and death. We repress its existence because we fear death. But without night there is no day, without winter there is no summer, and so without death, there is no life. This is the real world. Tel Aviv-Yafo, like many other cities, pushes out natural and temporal processes, tries to control and fight them. The city becomes a planned and predictable sequence, empty of the marks of time and erosion. The area on which I focused in southern Tel Aviv is neglected and abandoned, anonymous and without identity, a backyard, liberated. Fringes at the center. Different expressions of time and transformation. It is a magical area that will soon be exchanged for "timeless," "eternal" residential compounds. Inspired by the existing, in the project, I examine the possibility of being liberated from control in design and how to allow time to be an active participant in shaping the space; a project that is only one part in a process, never complete, which enables life that is aware of the passing time.
