The village of Jisr az-Zarqa is a deceptive place. The gap between the actual state of the village and its potential strikes everyone who comes across it. For years, the village has been far from the Israeli consciousness and its population exists in isolation from the surrounding physical and human environment. This, despite its central geographic location and the presence of unique and impressive points of interest. This project proposes to bridge the gap between the local population and Israeli society through the development of a local touristic area next to the existing beachside fisherman’s village, together with an ornithological center located close to the banks of Taninim River. The center takes advantage of neighboring Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael’s fish farm ponds, which in recent years have become identified worldwide with birdwatching. The design is inspired by the historical local stone constructions in combination with the character of the surrounding nature.
