"Pilgrimage is a journey, often to an unknown or foreign place, where a person goes in search of a new or expanded meaning about himself, his surroundings, nature or higher good through experience. This can lead to a personal change, after which the pilgrim returns to his daily life". Jerusalem is a city divided, both in the physical dimension as it delineates cultures and history into defined areas that do not intertwine, and in the spiritual realm, where the centers of the three monotheistic religions sacred to the people living in it are wholly separate. My childhood in Jerusalem, personal history and journey inspired me to create the "Pilgrimage" project. With it, I seek to create an experiential, unifying and inclusive space, which gives its visitors a universal spiritual experience that is detached from prevailing traditional or religious definitions and highlights the humanistic dimensions of man. The planning emphasizes places meeting, connection to the land, and uses architecture as a link between the physical world and the spiritual world. I drew inspiration from the spirit of creation, which includes seven universal elements that evoke consciousness – movement, water, light, darkness, the narrative of the circle of life, the five senses, and connection to nature. The "Pilgrimage" project will seek to interweave different typologies of observation and meditative spaces along the pedestrian axis that connects Gay Bin Hinnom and the main hall on the Promenade of the Commissioner's Palace. This itinerary will be a personal spiritual ascension route, in which its participants will experience a typological journey that emphasizes the wonders of creation and the exaltation of the spirit. This axis will take individuals, groups and families on a journey of renewal and belonging that will end in the main hall – a building with blurred boundaries that connects the pristine nature with the urban skyline, which in its form captures what until now was separated, and in its form will emphasize our unity as human beings.
