The separation line known as the 'Green Line' is the unofficial border of the State of Israel since the War of Independence, which became a physical border with the establishment of the separation fence. The construction of the barbed wire fence, which was later built as a concrete wall, continues to this day and is very present in the physical space due to its enormous dimensions. The fence provides an answer to the security need on the one hand, but does not take into account the environmental, physical, scenic and economic needs on the other hand, and in addition makes the conflict between the nations even more present. The project offers a discourse that generates a change of consciousness – from a static and fortified border that takes the physical space as a hostage for security and ideological needs, to a dynamic border that enlivens the space through architectural tools and various functions. The border between the settlement of Maccabim and the village of Beit Sira serves as a case study that will be able to be contained on the entire fence, and is designed with the combined strategy of memory and reflection on the future. A world center for youth and cultural and educational events is located on the border, alongside residential extensions in the nearby settlements that combine mixed uses, encourage walkability and a community lifestyle, thus creating a new narrative: memory creates life.
