This project examines an approach to designing student housing, in a way in which they are an integral part of an urban environment, that includes diverse programs and shared public spaces. I would like to examine how the planning of the urban space around the dormitories can improve the living experience and strengthen the community and the sense of belonging of the residents. In the project I chose to focus on the 'Broshim' dormitory of Tel Aviv University, which is located in an area with industrial characteristics outside the Ramat Aviv neighborhood and is surrounded by industrial buildings and parking lots. The area I chose does indeed serve many students daily, however it prioritizes vehicles, both in terms of the many open spaces used as parking lots, and in terms of the main road and its narrow sidewalks. Since the area is disconnected from the existing urban space in the nearby neighborhood, I propose to plan a new student block in it, while densifying the space, adding residential, commercial, and employment areas, as well as strengthening the walkability and connectivity between the existing 'Broshim' dormitories and Tel Aviv University.
