The following research seeks to examine the future life in urban Israel with reference to the lack of open spaces, land reserves for public buildings and the climate crisis, while considering a sustainable city from an environmental, social and spatial point of view. From the environmental aspect – the vision is to promote a high-density and high-quality construction that seeks to preserve the land reserves by reducing the footprint and utilizing existing textures. This vision also seeks to promote energy production and waste reduction construction processes, and aims to create a space that encourages walking for the benefit of eradicating pollution and emissions caused by cars and motorcycles. From the social aspect – the intention is to promote human diversity and conformity to different types of populations, as well as to create a space with a multitude of meeting opportunities which will encourage mutual relations between residents, with the intention of forming a community. From the spatial aspect – the goal is to promote construction that mixes residence, commerce and entertainment together, while correctly maintaining the balance of public ⇔ privacy, space ⇔ density and environmental quality ⇔ quality of life. The proposal and research will be tested on the suburb neighborhood of "Golda Meir" in Gedera. “Golda Meir” is a neighborhood with about 2,000 residents, highly differentiated from the rest of the city from a social and scenic point of view. The intervention in an existing texture is part of a planning concept that sees great potential in adding a new layer on top of existing textures, thus diverting development efforts from the concept of seizing virgin areas to the approach of growing on top of the existing texture and out of it, in order to preserve the land reserves. The disconnection-connection tool was inspired from the method of "cutting" (assembling) from the world of botany, which promotes symbiosis between the existing and the new for the benefit of extracting the potential of both components and promoting partnership. With the help of the disconnection-connection tool, kindergartens, cinemas, playgrounds, vegetable gardens, youth movements, etc., can also exist within existing textures. The architectural tool that was developed incorporates a process of looking at the existing and searching for what can be cleared ("disconnected"), in order to allow the addition ("connection") of another layer, for the benefit of a combined usage, high-quality densification, community formation and environment preservation. This tool opens the door to fascinating connections with added value, as will be presented later, between new and old, static and dynamic, between materials, occurrences and publics, on the building and neighborhood scale, in order to achieve an overall, new and up-to-date quality.
