The project intervenes in an old immigrant neighborhood in Ashdod called B Quarter, and deals with issues of urban renewal. The planning instigator in the project is the local community of the quarter, about 47% of which are immigrants. The aim is to turn the area into a center for the immigrant community of Ashdod as a whole. Focus is put on the commercial area situated at the center of the quarter, a place that naturally combines the diverse ethnic populations. In the project, this area is termed, The Haven Square because it provides a sense of wellbeing and security to the whole of the quarter residences. The commercial center is another planning instigator. I want to keep its current character and even intensify it by adding a non stop moving in of new immigrants and creating a nostalgic refuge for the “veteran” immigrants.
