The project asks to bring to attention the problematic and accepted approach to the punishment and incarceration of women – an approach that ignores the difference between the nature of male crime versus female crime, the life circumstances of the criminal women as well as the prison experience for them. Out of the understanding that the vast majority of women prisoners are victims of physical and mental abuse that took place in their young or adult life, and out of a belief that the conditions of their incarceration perpetuates the victim-criminal cycle, this project aims at being a rehabilitating alternative to the only women prison in Israel. The project hopes to be an alternative that helps them, during and after they serve their term, to build a good and stable life and not return to crime. The project puts an emphasis on motherhood, kids, and family among prison walls, on the rehabilitation of prisoners with the help of employment, and on breaking the distance between the general public and how it views a prison.
