The City Square is a project that rethinks the urban public space. Its goals are to connect the local government institutions to the city and to restore the residents' trust in the government institutions. Near some of the town halls in the various cities there is a town square. In my opinion, this square is important and can be the generator for strengthening the connection and communication between the municipality and the city's residents. Therefore, I examined the potential inherent in a civic square as a focal point for creating and improving this connection between the citizens and the local government institutions. I focused on the City of Beersheba and created an urban-civic square near the city hall. My goal was to create an active and versatile space for a variety of needs. In planning the town square, I lowered the existing parking lot in front of the City Hall building into an underground car park; I added buildings to define the borders of the square. I defined a variety of functions (residential, commercial, employment, market, and cultural) for which the square should serve. These changes allow the square to be on the one hand a home for demonstrations and on the other hand to serve as an open space for the residents of the neighborhood. In fact, the same square space is used, as needed, for different urban activities. By creating a walkway passage through the municipality building to the civic square this project seeks to positively change the current way in which a municipality relates and communicates with its residents.
