The project examines Atarim Square as a space that embodies the dialectic between modernist heritage, abandonment, and renewal, and proposes a framework of “experiential preservation” as an alternative to radical demolition. Its point of departure is the recognition of distinctive qualities that have emerged over time, the elevated topography as an “urban balcony” to the sea, the panoramic outlook, and the potential for contemplative experience alongside spontaneous uses, and their integration through calibrated intervention. The proposal preserves the multilevel principle, strengthens connectivity between the boulevard, the square, and the sea, and applies selective renewal of existing structures and open spaces to support public-cultural activity (galleries, studios, dining, and flexible plazas). In this way, a dialogue between past, present, and future is woven: neither a freeze of the current condition nor erasure, but rather a deepening of the site’s identity and an expansion of the spectrum of urban experience in Tel Aviv.
