My graduation project explores how architecture can act as a living system rather than an isolated object. I was inspired by the dynamics of jazz: its rhythm, harmony, improvisation, and dialogue, as a framework for rethinking cultural and urban design. Just as jazz thrives on interaction between instruments, cities can only flourish through active relationships between their spaces and institutions. The project is located at Beit HaDar site in Tel Aviv, a 30 dunam former parking lot on the grounds of the historic South Railway Station. Surrounded by major boulevards and diverse neighborhoods, the site today functions as a void in the metropolitan fabric. Its strategic position offers the opportunity to transform this gap into a cultural and community hub that stitches together the surrounding urban flows. The design translates jazz principles into architectural tools: repetition and variation, moments of climax, and continuous dialogue. A grid of “musical measures” organizes masses and open spaces into rhythmic sequences, while programmed combinations of learning, creation, and exhibition foster interaction. The result is a metropolitan cultural center that does not stand apart, but acts as a tipping point, a catalyst for connection, resonance, and urban vitality.
