Netanya's Market is an old urban marketplace, enclosed between abandoned buildings, yet carrying great potential for urban renewal. The project seeks to revive the market through renewed planning and to establish within it an urban center of life that will integrate into the existing city – as an open, accessible, dynamic, and inviting space. The process focuses on rehabilitating and reactivating neglected areas that currently weaken the complex, and the development and expansion of the urban fabric, while using hierarchical movement as a generator of design and as a driving force for creating a continuous and vibrant urban sequence. The historical diamond polishing workshop buildings within the market – remnants of the diamond industry that once served as an economic engine and a central anchor – are reinterpreted in the project as a renewed cultural and social hub. In this way, the project reuses existing resources and creates a connection between the city’s past and the needs of a dense and regenerating city. The project aspires to connect past and present, commerce, culture, and urban life, linking local history with the market’s unrealized qualities – recognizing the market as a unique and significant urban tool.
