Viewing isolation as both a cause and manifestation of trauma, my goal is to propose an architectural design that heals and connects, improving the lives of residents and visitors in Haifa's Bat Galim neighborhood – home to Rambam Medical Center and the Technion Faculty of Medicine. I approach the neighborhood through the lens of "urban islands," a concept describing disconnected and isolated spaces that intensify experiences of mental and physical illness. My proposal introduces healing-oriented design in Bat Galim by integrating Rambam Medical Center and the Technion Medical School into a new residential neighborhood on the site of the Navy Training Base, currently being evacuated. The aim is to enhance quality of life for the neighborhood's residents, those accessing medical services, and the medical teams and students who work and live there. The detailed design presents a new residential typology that combines housing for patients from the neighborhood's medical centers and their accompanying family members with housing for medical staff, residents, and students. The building incorporates treatment spaces run by the therapeutic staff living within it, serving residents in the patient housing wings. The ground floor and top floor house public clinics and retail spaces.
