Urban renewal processes today are drastically transforming the face of the city. Evacuation-construction plans alter the physical space and disconnect the local residents from their experience and local memory. These processes distort the urban experience and the identity of the urban space. The project focuses on the Shikun Chisachon neighborhood in South Jaffa, which has undergone massive evacuation-construction processes in recent years. I argue that the existing structural infrastructure of the neighborhood does not necessarily hinder urban development. The new construction planning aims to be integral to the existing urban fabric. The project proposes a new approach to urban renewal based on modernist housing typology and its principles. It utilizes housing as a foundation for planning and designing a new urban experience that emerges from the existing context.
