Flour mills were built on the outskirts of Jaffa in the late 19th century. Their design represents the idea of ​​the building as a machine, each element of the mill was designed in accordance to its role in the production line. In contrast to functional industrial structures designed according to “Form Follows Function”, “Adaptive Reuse” is the reverse process – adapting the content to the existing container. I chose to interact with the flour mill located at the intersection of Shlabim and Ben-Zvi streets, which borders on the Tel Aviv-Yaffo Academic College, and transform it into an Architecture School. The architectural elements ​​that intrigued me in the existing flour mill were textures, materials and forms, scale, machine aesthetics and the encounter between the machine and the urban realm. My intervention is in reference to qualities of the existing buildings and spaces, in an attempt to pour new content into them which creates an interaction and layering between the new and the old, exterior and interior spaces, and between space and content.
